Amid of one the biggest pandemic of humankind over the last decades, several labs and laboratories around the world are working hard not only to developing the vaccine as soon as possible but also to find the answer for all of the ifs and buts around the novel virus. If you're wondering if coronavirus can spread through sperm just like the way other body droplets work or not, keep on reading to find the answer.
Recently, a study of the University of Utah in the US found out that it is impossible for coronavirus to spread via sperm. According to researchers, they have worked on the samples of 7 COVID-19 patients and see no evidence that the novel virus exists in human sperm. So, it can be assumed that coronavirus is not a sexually transmitted disease (STD). What a relief to the human kinds as the situation might be worse otherwise.
“The fact that in this small, preliminary study that it appears the virus that causes COVID-19 doesn’t show up in the testes or semen could be an important finding,” said Dr. James M Hotaling from the University of Utah
However, he also added that even when the virus wasn’t found in sperm, there are rare chances that it was still entering the testes which are in charge of generating sperm. If the supposition is proved to be true, the male’s testes and semen can be damaged which affects sperm production.
Although coronavirus is unlikely to spread via intercourse, having sex with a partner who is contacted with the virus is absolutely not a good idea. In fact, coronavirus can be transmitted via body fluids like saliva and mucus fluid. If you are concerned about your health, you'd better avoid any physical contact with anyone who shows symptoms of respiratory sickness including sneezing, dry couching, or having high body temperature. Even when you're partner does not show any symptoms but living apart from your household, it's better to put your sex sessions on hold.
