Today's horror games are becoming more and more quality, no more cheap scares or basic motifs. It has become more unpredictable, interesting, and has a storyline that brings more emotional experiences than simply ... fear of ghosts. And whether you are a fan of mysterious, compelling storylines of a basic jump scare, we've got what we think are the top 10 best horror games of all time that may haunt you every night.
1. Resident Evil 7
Resident Evil is a name that weighs heavily on any gamer in general and the devotee of the best horror games in particular. Resident Evil 7 right from the release of the trailer and demo sparked the community when it brought about fear in different shades.
Set in a nightmarish version of rural Louisiana, the story has Ethan Winters stumbling on an abandoned mansion while searching for his missing wife, Mia. What he discovers, however, is the psychopathic family, who kidnapped and tortured him in their supernatural lair.
2. Layers of Fear
Most games can make you scared to jump, some can make scream loud, but few can make you doubt yourself in real life. Playing as a painter in Layers Of Fear, you will slowly come to insane as you struggle to explore a vast creepy mansion to finish his Magnum Opus.
The house changed unpredictably: doors disappear, corridors warp out of shape; the game reshapes constantly to push the character to madness in only a few hours in, and you'll find yourself questioning everything. With its obsessive design, Layers Of Fear deserves to be listed in the best horror games of all time.
3. Alien: Isolation
Huddled in a dark hallway in an abandoned medical place with a xenomorph, the only light coming from a flickering bulb, the gameplay needs to keep the pulse-pounding for every moment.
Alien: Isolation puts you in the role of Amanda, who is searching for a flight recorder at a space station, that will help her learn more about what happened to her mother after the events of the first film. What made these moments so tense was just how clever the Xenomorph’s artificial intelligence was and avoiding it induced a sense of fear.
4. P.T.
P.T. is among the best horror games ever made. Players find themselves in a creepy, haunted suburban hallway, walk around this strange house finding clues and solving puzzles. The real terror comes from the unknown. You can notice strange shadows and sounds and your imagination fills in the blanks, creating more terror than any simple jump scare or creepy noise could.
5. Silent Hill 2
Silent Hill is one of the first monuments of the horror game with classic elements such as ruined city, ruin, headless stories, mysterious and strange people.
Silent Hill 2 centers on James Sunderland, a widower who journeys to the town after receiving a letter from his dead wife, Mary, claiming that she can be found in the town they used to vacation at. Every corner of the town is inhabited by some new horror, but James has to come over his fears if he ever wants to know whats going on. 8. Resident Evil 4
An agent for a special security agency, Leon is sent to Spain on a mission to rescue Ashley Graham, the President's daughter, who has been kidnapped by a mysterious cult organization
The sheer stress of being rushed by the parasite-infested local population headed up by a sack-masked, chainsaw-wielding maniac ranks up there with gaming's most frightening moments.
