Bengal Man Beaten To Death By Police While Stepping Out To Buy Milk: Report

On Wednesday, a Bengal man died after being thrashed by policemen as he was stepping out to buy milk during the nationwide curfew. The case is attracting a lot of attention.

On Wednesday, a 32-year-old man hailed from West Bengal's Howrah was out to buy milk when he got beaten up by police amid the nationwide lockdown. The Bengal man demised post the thrashing. And according to his family, he died because of the injuries.

However, the police have disowned this charge. As per officials, Lal Swami – Howrah resident was already carrying heart ailments and that he passed away from a cardiac arrest.

The family member of Swami shared with ABP that the man had gone out of his place to purchase some milk. In the conversation with the Bengali channel, the victim’s wife reported that he grappled with police baton charge when the workforce was clearing a gathering on the street.

Swami was taken to a local hospital but was then declared to be dead. This case of the Bengal man is currently creating storms over the world.

So far, West Bengal has had ten confirmed coronavirus cases and one death.

A 66-year-old man has contracted the novel coronavirus in West Bengal, which makes the 10th case around the state. This man is from Kolkata’s Nayabad and he did not travel outside the state or abroad.

Recently, he had taken part in a Midnapore-hailed wedding and he might have come in contact with someone got infected with Covid-19. The newest case is undergoing treatment at a private hospital’s isolation area. Sources also reported that his family is engaged in home quarantine under the protection of police.

Earlier, CM Mamata Banerjee had issued an entire lockdown in the state from Monday until March 31.

Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, had impelled citizens to solemnly follow social distancing rules and stay home through the 21-day lockdown announcement made by PMN Narendra Modi. The norm is created to help control the spread of fatal coronavirus which has infected more than 650 people over the nation as of now.

Essential services and commodities like markets, grocery store, and medicine shops can still open, as assured by Banerjee. He also said,

"I request all of you not go for panic-buying. Don't crowd shops. Maintain a safe distance."
