However, the hidden cost of ‘lockdown puppy trading’ is much higher than you can estimate.

Ways scammers monetize lockdown puppies

The issue first comes from legitimate dog breeders who hike the price of puppies and sell it to anyone who is willing to pay a higher price despite the puppy has already been deposited. In addition to that, there is also online scam in puppies trading market with fake businesses that upload puppy photos for sale, taking people’s deposit but there no puppies are actually sold.

In fact, the price of most desirable dog breeds in the UK has been doubled or even tripled during the coronavirus lockdown. For example, a French bulldog puppy which is the favorite breeds among celebrities might cost up to £5,000. You can buy one with only £2,500 three months ago.

Dogs died halfway waiting for new home

Due to the increasing demand for puppies as lockdown companions in many countries, the world also sees a dramatic increase in both legal and illegal puppy trade. Mother dogs are being forced to get pregnant over and over so they can produce as many puppies as possible. And do not let along with the fact that there are countless numbers of puppies who died halfway waiting to find a home.

Last month, Toronto airport of Canada recorded a heartbreaking case of 38 over 500 French bulldog puppies who died while waiting to be imported to the country from Kiev. How many puppies and mother dogs have died in this crazy dog trading business, we will never know.

However, even when a puppy is lucky enough to find a new home after its owner paid a whopping amount, it doesn’t mean that he is safe forever. If the owner is not committed enough with his dog and being friends with a puppy is just a short term solution during the lockdown, the most desirable puppy someone spent thousands to get in his bag today could be abandoned or available for adoption a few weeks later.

Instead of buying puppies from puppy trading business, start adopting one from shelters so you could have a companion yet saving the lives of more than just one dog.
