India Officially Bans Tiktok And 58 Other Chinese Apps Amid Border Dispute

Recently, the Government of India has officially banned 59 Chinese apps including UC Browser and famous app TikTok as they consider them “prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order”, reported by ANI.

Intelligence agencies have recently red-flagged most of these applications due to the concerns that they were garnering the data of users and sending them out of the nation’s border.

Among the Chinese apps that have got banned are quite a lot of popular platforms such as Tik Tok, Kwai, Sharit, Baidu Map, UC Browser, DU battery saver, Clash of Kings, Shein, Likee, Helo, YouCam makeup, CM Browsers, Mi Community, Apus Browser, Mobile Legends, Virus Cleaner, among others.

It had been reported that the National Security Council Secretariat had supported the announcement issued by the intelligence agencies and agreed that these applications were threatening India’s security.

It is said that the Government of India has also acknowledged this issue regarding Chinese apps and was in the throes of looking into the risks posed by using these applications on a regular basis. It seems that they have indeed found out the violations of these apps towards the security of the country.

Meanwhile, the ban allegedly comes in the midst of the current India-China deadlock along the LAC post the loss of 20 Indian soldiers and the grievous injure of multiple others during the Ladakh’s Galwan Valley standoff with the Chinese troops.

It may be the first time ever the Indian government has straightforward “banned” such a number of apps from China. Earlier, they have gone down that route but the advisories were only informing the public to be careful of Chinese apps.

The TikTok ban is particularly important as the application was caught in the act to be spying on iPhone users after the update of iOS 14 beta. TikTok itself has admitted to the claims and promised that it will not repeat the same.
