Meet Zhang Jixian - First Female Doctor To Discover CoronaVirus In the World

On December 26^th, respiratory expert Zhang Jixian (54 yr) examined for 4 people and diagnosed a new virus (coronavirus). One day after, three more people came to see her with the same symptoms of pneumonia. What worried her was that members of the same family got flu, which means this is an infectious disease. And then, Ms. Zhang started to be cautious.

4 out of 7 first patients of new pneumonia shared another similarity when they had reached Hua Nam market which purchases the wild animals in Wuhan, China. Since then, Ms. Zhang has become the first doctor in the world to diagnose and follow the new coronavirus (2019-nCoV). One month and a week have passed, positive cases with coronavirus have been over 30,000 cases in which 639 of them were found dead (637 cases from China, 1 from the Philippines, and 1 from Hong Kong).

Without Ms. Zhang’s investigation, we cannot imagine how the virus can develop more and increase the number of deaths.

On February 3^rd, a leading daily newspaper of China had the first interview with the female doctor, which has drawn over 420 million views and 93,000 discussions on Weibo – a popular Chinese social media. As per some reports, Ms. Zhang who is charming and gentle is the manager of the Respiratory and Emergency Caring Department in Hubei hospital.

How Ms. Zhang discovered the novel Corona Virus

According to Ms. Zhang, she as well as the other doctors have never seen this virus before. It’s considered as an issue when 4 patients come from Hua Nam seafood market. She further added that all of 7 patients showed the symptoms of lungs with different levels. The female doctor found it weird and reported to the hospital immediately to offer a general practice diagnosis. Then 7 of them were detected as the first cases of infection with 2019-nCoV.

A few days later, Ms. Zhang said that she was overload with work. The doctor shared that 9 segregating beds weren’t enough to receive the patients on the first day of Lunar New Year. After that, a group of experts from different hospitals in Wuhan combined together to observe the new disease. Since the first cases of coronavirus, Ms. Zhang has guided all the staff in the respiratory department to wear masks. Due to the serious signals of the disease, the hospital approved to deliver specific masks (N95) for the department.

Ms. Zhang noted that they just wear N95 masks in the areas of the department, otherwise, they will use the common medical masks. Since December 31^st, doctors treating the patients who got infected with new pneumonia have been equipped with protective gear and clothes. Based on Ms. Zhang’s experience since the outbreak of SARS in 2003, she has been busy with her duty of reaching different hospitals to find out the suspended cases.

You may not know the fact that doctors in Wuhan have been fighting more severely than the others. They have to work 24/24 in the conditions of lacking medical equipment and sometimes even get threaten by the hyper-arousal patients. Even when 500,000 medical staff of Henan have worked throughout the Chinese New Year, the stations have been overload.

Beijing government showed that they have mobilized more than 6,000 medical staff to support. In addition, the army including air forces and naval forces have joined the supporting team in 3 main hospitals of pneumonia treatment in the city.

For further information, the first field hospital with an area of 2,500 square meters and 1,000 beds has been completed with modern medical equipment. It is ready to serve the treatment for patients infected with coronavirus (2019-nCoV) from February 4^th, 2020.
