Nude Protester Dubbed 'Naked Athena' Defies Police With A Stripped Display

A video uploaded on Twitter has become viral as it shows a protestor in her birthday suit walking on the sidewalk before lying down on the road, kicking her feet up, and doing multiple ballet and yoga poses.

Although the naked woman remains unidentified, she has been called “Naked Athena” by social media users.

She can be seen seating between other protestors and the officers wearing absolutely nothing but a beanie and a face mask.

A photographer of The Oregonian/Oregon Live, Dave Killen, shared that everyone as surprised and astonished by the display.

Pictures that Killen took during the even along with footage recorded by journalist Donovan Farley became viral on the social networks.

As per a daily, the officers fired pepper balls at the feet of “Naked Athena”.

A protestor ran ahead of the woman with a makeshift shield and seemed to try protecting her from the balls.

However, Naked Athena moved out from behind the shield very quickly. The photographer said that he did not hear her say any word the whole time.

After she arrived, the officers left about ten minutes later. Shortly later, she also left the scene.

Killen said that Naked Athena was incredibly vulnerable.

"It would have been incredibly painful to be shot with any of those munitions with no clothes on," he added.

Protests and demonstrations have been taking place almost every night in Portland ever since the demise of George Floyd on 25 May.

On Saturday night, demonstrators broke in a building, set it on fire, and also lit the dumpster alight. Police called it “a riot” and utilized tear gas in order to clear the area downtown.

Ted Wheeler, Portland mayor, has slammed the growing presence and response of the federal in the city, saying that they have done more harm rather than good.

He said that there are “dozens if not hundreds of federal troops descending upon our city, and what they're doing is they are sharply escalating the situation.”

He also told a CNN journalist, Jake Tapper, that their presence there was actually causing more vandalism and more violence.
