Apart from the similarities between Fantastic Beast and previous JK Rowling’s series Star War and Harry Potter, the latest film from Fantastic Beasts showed creative constraints. Everything started with Lucas when recycling old visual effects of the Star Wars movies, and before audiences could recognize, he changed the mythologies and even the existence of characters was altered. Even though, the reputation of Lucas among his fans has grown which was supposed to "force" him sell the franchise Star War to Disney.
In the case of JK Rowling, poor decisions have been shown when she changed the cultural climate. Her memorable book, Harry Potter, showed a remarkable lack of diversity. It seems to be that she was stuck in the trap made by her own when she was buried in her panic to bring back a perfect series.
Furthermore, JK Rowling has revealed many unnecessary details in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald and it is pretty sure that those content could make any big fans annoyed. The annoying had last till the final scene of the movie when the final rabbit was finally pulled out; It is not surprising if audiences express their distrust and disappointment.
Most of the characters introduced in the Harry Potter series are the successor of some character in Fantastic Beasts The Crimes of Grindelwald. It makes the movie story seamless and sounds like a big universe, but it revealed the possibility of inbreeding issue in the wizard community. However, this orientation is quite hesitant and narcissistic; It is likely that JK Rowling is convinced by herself about the enormous of the world she created and afraid to make some chaos. Consequently, indiscriminate decisions have been inadvertently caused by the writer.
Is the gender of Albus Dumbledore a matter? Absolutely not. However, that detail was mentioned in the movie, and now everybody knows he is not straight. Furthermore, another extraneous detail was revealed, the proof that Albus Dumbledore is gay. In addition to the mentioned detail, so many valueless contents were added without any purpose and did not even link to the storylines.
Instead of a scene of a broomstick which refuses to respond to the yelling of the plot and keep rolling on the ground, some character, both new and old one, crossed the path of each other, some love stories that most of the moviegoer has no interest in was presented. Furthermore, some lines were expressed awkwardly. For specific, there is the scene that the brother of Newt, Theseus Scamander, firmly believe that reminding a sad memory with his girlfriend is necessary; “Your brother Corvus is dead.”. It is undoubtedly a less interesting fact in the movie.
There is no doubt that JK Rowling is one of the best writers in the world. Moreover, by releasing the Harry Potter series, she has remarkably influenced numerous readers in a variety of generation across the globe. Instead of inheritance the greatness of the Harry Potter series, The Crimes of Grindelwald showed its mediocrity in many aspects.
Appear in the first scene of the movie is the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald who was arrested by Newt Scamander in the first movie in Fantastic Beasts franchises. The visuals of the scene are not as clear as those in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and also the first part of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Additionally, the editing part is not coherent; the audiences could find difficult to follow up with a high number of characters. Everything has gone so far when the movie comes to an end, the switcheroo could make many people feel like they have been cheated.
It could be said that Johnny Depp is the best thing in the movie. While the jury is still considering his guilty after he commits to crimes that he has been charged with, Johnny Depp deserves to be called the main character for his outstanding performance in the movie. In spite of the massive introduction of Grindelwald, this character is usually not a subtle character. Despite the script that he receives is not in his favor but he always can find subtle and effective ways to provide subtext to ordinary storylines. Let’s take a flashback to the restriction in the past, it is such an emotional punch for the way he fights against everything for his perception of freedom.
Jude Law participates in the movie with the role of Albus Dumbledore, young Dumbledore. With his mild Irish accent, It could be that the film wants to honor the aggressive of Michael Gambon, the Irish actor play Dumbledore in the Harry Potter series after the sudden death of Richard Harris.
Mentions about the school of Wizardry and Witchcraft, Hogwarts School, there is only one scene which can be considered as a good scene throughout two and haft hours of the movie. That is when we come back Hogwarts and wondering if the David Yates, the director, could lock himself to Hogwarts where he could feel comfortable.
The audiences can feel the effort of David Yates when trying to have the connection with the scattershot screenplay of JK Rowling. However, instead of the grace in transitions, the rigidly applying cinematic laws lead to the needlessly provocative disregard. It is clear that he was failed despite his European visuals' trademark and extra score from James Newton Howard.
The Crimes of Grindelwald is buried in dense of mythologies, the movie was not really based on the plot. Besides, It is likely that the film has not yet decided to become a sequel to Harry Potter or a sequel to Fantastic Beasts. The movie has so many inactivity moments, even criminals do not have much action. Moreover, wasting so much time for unnecessary and valueless stuff results in the consequence that the movie is in danger to be compared to the first movie of Hobbit series. ‘Not disposable, but of a different disposition.’, Grindelwald said.
