After the successive failures of the DCEU movies (Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad), Warner Bros is finally on the right track towards their superheroes.
Following the two massive blockbusters Wonder Woman and Justice League, DC put all focus on Aquaman. Not unexpected, the movie overtook Wonder Woman at the global box office, grossing more than $1.1 billion. Moreover, film critics showed their satisfaction as well as the positive response with the sixth instalment in the DCEU.
After Aquaman’s huge success, DC continues to release a new movie named Shazam!. The film revolves around a 14-year-old boy who is able to transform himself into an adult superhero by only uttering the titular incantation. With the star Zachary Levi as the title character, Shazam! immediately is a bright candidate of the most outstanding DC films. Not just that, it swallows $159.1 million in the opening weekend, being the highest grossing movie worldwide with all speed. Furthermore, Shazam! garnered more than $56.7 million domestically, including the amount at the special screening ahead of its release in March.
Until now, in spite of the lowest opening weekend of any DCEU films, Shazam! spends a low budget in comparison with a massive budget of other superhero movies. It costs just $90 million - $100 million to produce and debuts with an estimated $159.1 million in only three days from release. That is obviously an advantageous beginning.
Also, Shazam! has obtained an overwhelmingly positive response from both of the critics and audience and a "fresh" critical score at Rotten Tomatoes. The film is supposed to stay strong at the box office in the coming weeks. Till the release of Avengers: Endgame on April 26, Shazam! is expected to be a blockbuster movie with much more achievements.
