While China is facing a tough time struggling with one of the biggest epidemics of the century - the coronavirus outbreak, the authorities are also coping up with another problem relating to the divorce rates in the country. Indeed, the country has witnessed a sharp increase in divorce cases which is supposed to be fueled by the coronavirus outbreak.
Self-isolation is the main cause
According to Lu Shijun, the manager of a marriage registry in Dazhou, Sichuan Province of south-western China, he has recorded more than 300 new divorce requests within the last three weeks. The rate is several times higher than the previous time ̣when coronavirus hasn’t outbroken yet.)
Self-isolation is believed to be the major cause of the unusual divorce rate. As couples spend too much time at home together, they are easily able to argue with each other and rush into getting a divorce.
Another factor that explains the increase of divorce cases is the postponement of application. According to an officer, many council offices had closed for a month due to the epidemic before re-opening at the beginning of March.
Coronavirus is hitting the world hard
Earlier, many cities in China were put under lockdown and people were asked to isolate themselves within a month to avoid the spread of the deadly virus. While China stated that they have passed the peak time of the outbreak, the rest of the world is still having a hard time struggling with the deadly virus with 133,000 positives cases and counting. In fact, Europe has become the 'epicenter' of global pandemic with more than 1000 people died in Italy.
In India, the number of confirmed cases rose from 93 to 112 on Sunday after a spike in Maharashtra. Meanwhile, 236 evacuated people from Iran were tested negative for coronavirus, according to an official source.
