According to reports, filmmakers Sameer Dixit, Jatish Varma and Girish Johar have acquired the rights to the story of Uzma Ahmed. Saif Ali Khan has been cast to play Indian diplomat in the forthcoming film.

Saif Ali Khan, who recently started shooting for his upcoming home production, Jawaani Jaaneman, with debutante Alaia Furniturewalla, has bagged a new film. The makers of an upcoming movie based on the life of Uzma Ahmed have signed on Saif Ali Khan to play the role of JP Singh, the then Indian Deputy High Commissioner in Islamabad, who did everything possible to ensure that Uzma Ahmed reaches India safely after a month-long ordeal in Pakistan.

Filmmakers Sameer Dixit, Jatish Varma and Girish Johar have acquired the rights to the story of Uzma Ahmed. For the uninitiated, Uzma hails from Delhi who, during a trip to Malaysia, fell in love with a taxi driver from Pakistan named Tahir Ali.

She then went to Buner, one of the remotest parts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where she found out that Tahir was already married and a father to four children. When she refused to marry him after knowing his truth, she was forced to marry at gunpoint.

Filmmaker Shivam Nair, who has previously directed the Taapsee Pannu and Akshay Kumar-starrer espionage drama Naam Shabana (2016), has come onboard to direct the untitled movie. We also hear that Saif Ali Khan will kick-start preparation for his role in the film closer to the shooting date.
