Oscars 2019 is now getting underway and good news for the Indian film industry as India-based documentary, Period. End of Sentence bagged Oscar for the Best Documentary Short Subject. The film is based on the taboos around menstruation and was set in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur. Directed by the award-winning filmmaker Rayka Zehtabchi and jointly produced by Guneet Monga and Monga's Sikhya Entertainment, the film focuses on the work of Arunachalam Muruganathan (Pad Man).
The director in her acceptance speech said
Needless to say, producer Geeta felt on cloud nine over this win and she then took to social media to share,
The short film was a part of the Pad Project established by students from Oakwood School in Los Angles and their teacher Melissa Berton.
On the eve of the Oscars, Monga stated that whatever happens, her team is a winner already.
