Akshay Kumar Has Applied For Indian Passport After Canadian Citizenship Row

Akshay Kumar is known for his patriotic acts but he has been questioned several times over his nationality. He has been actively supporting Indian Army via Bharat Ke Veer application. The actor donates part of his income to the defense personnel. During 2019 Lok Sabha elections in India,  a special feature interview was conducted by Akshay Kumar with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This led to severe outrage among the netizens.

Akshay Kumar posses Canadian passport and was not able to vote during the election period. However, his wife and children are Indian citizens and hold an Indian passport. When Akshay Kumar failed to vote, netizens trolled the actor and his wife Twinkle Khanna. During a media conclave, Akshay Kumar openly spoke about the reason behind him possessing a Canadian passport. He gave the clarification infront of live audience after he was asked why he has been asked to prove his nationality. He was also pointed out that despite appealing people to vote during elections, he himself failed to vote.

Akshay Kumar revealed that it was during one of the tenure that he had 14 flop films in a row. After which he spoke to few of his close friends. He was advised to visit Canada and work there as the actor felt that his career was finished. But after which his 15th film did well at the box office and this led to cancel his plan and shift to Canada. It was during that era, Akshay Kumar took Canadian citizenship. However, the actor clarified that after ups and downs in the industry he never looked upon and checked his passport status.

He also revealed that process of making Indian passport is already begun. Being an Indian he feels sad that he has to prove his nationality everytime. The actor also revealed that he pays his taxes in India and wants to spend his entire life in the country.
