Over 30 vaccines have been on research and made in different stages of India's coronavirus vaccine development. Some of them are considered to trial practice, according to the report of experts to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a recent meeting.
Yesterday, PM Modi held a task force meeting around coronavirus vaccine development. Also, the current status of the country's attempt to develop the vaccine, discover drugs and testing has been reviewed in detail.
Post the meeting, the PM's office stated that some Indian companies have been innovating and researching on the COVID-19 vaccine development. It also said that drug discovery has been approached across the country in three types. The statement announced:
"First, the repurposing of existing drugs. At least four drugs are undergoing synthesis and examination in this category. Secondly, the development of new candidate drugs and molecules are being driven by linking high performance computational approached with laboratory verification. Thirdly, plant extracts and products are being examined for general anti-viral properties."
Besides, many academic research start-ups and institutions are looking at fresh tests. They all focus on approaching the Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and testing, diagnosis, and antibody disclosure. Laboratories throughout India have worked together to create the capacity to implement these tests.
The statement further added:
"The problem of important reagents for testing has been addressed by consortia of Indian start-ups and industry, meeting current requirements. The current thrust also holds promise for the development of a robust long-term industry in this area."
