Recently, regional cinema is doing better in terms of stories and narration than its counterpart Bollywood. And one such jewel is the recently released Marathi feature film Smile Please. The story revolves around a young and budding photographer Nandini. And the film begins with Nandini struggling to find words amidst a presentation.
Later in the day she also forgets to pick up her daughter Nupur from the school. You might think that the movie might be associated with stress and depression. You have got it completely wrong and the credit goes to the Director who has done wonderful research before shooting the flick.
So as said before, the movie starts with Nandini forgetting smaller things in her life. Her doctor also recommends taking some rest as she feels that Nandini is facing this ignorable issue due to lack of rest and stress. Soon the world around Nandini goes for a toss and the story takes an interesting turn too.
Nandini struggles with the disease called dementia in which we tend to gradually forget everything that is dearer to us. Vikram Phadnis, the director of the feature yet again impresses with a fine story. Before Smile Please he had come up with an excellent heart touching story in his debut Hrudayantar.
That story was about a married couple who was at the verge of a breakup is reunited back when they realize that one of their daughters was suffering from cancer. Similarly, in Smile Please Nandini the wife is a divorcee. And her husband plays a fantastic role giving her the required moral support. The difference is that they never reunite.
The director spins a surprise with an additional character Viraj (played by Lalit Prabhakar). He becomes the backbone of Nandini during her time of distress.
Mukta Barve who plays the character of Nandini does an amazing job as she impresses with her incomparable on-screen performance.
This film is a must-watch for all the movie lovers as it will give you a completely new insight into the life of a person suffering from dementia. And I promise that the climax will bring a smile on your face.
