With 8 consecutive movies joining the ₹1 billion club, director Rohit Shetty has proved that he totally knows how to win the hearts of his audiences. His latest movie, Simmba, starring Ranveer Singh and Sara Ali Khan in the lead roles, has grossed over ₹ 1,24 billion and still continued to earn more at the domestic box office. The movie has officially become Rohit’s eighth movie to cross ₹1 billion at the domestic box office.
Let’s take a look at the list of movies that proves Rohit Shetty is the King of Bollywood’s ₹1 billion club.
1.Simmba (2018), over ₹ 1,24 billion (box office gross in five days)
The Ranveer Singh starrer has collected over ₹1,24 billion at the box office in just five days. The movie has gained mixed reviews from critics, however, the viewers seem to really enjoy this masala entertainer. Simmba is the story of Sangram "Simmba" Bhalerao, a corrupt police officer hailing from the same town as Singham, who is forced to lead a more righteous path after tragedy strikes those near him. The movie is now screening in the cinema with no big premiere this weekend so it is predicted that the movie will continue to earn more money at the domestic box office.
2. Golmaal Again (2017), ₹2,05 billion
The Rohit Shetty directorial “Dilwale” hit the cinema on 18th December 2015 and clashed with Bajirao Mastani at the domestic box office. The romantic action movie created huge expectations for the audience when it brought back one of the most favorite couple, Kajol and Shahrukh Khan, on the silver screen. It also stars Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon in the pivotal roles. Although Dilwale crossed ₹1 billion mark with a total of ₹1,49 billion, the movie was expected to do much better.
4. Singham Returns (2014), ₹1,47 billion
The sequel of big hit film “Singham”, featuring Kareena Kapoor and Ajay Devgn, was one solo premiere on the Independence Day. Singham Returns grossed ₹1,47 billion at the box office.
5. Chennai Express (2013), ₹2,27 billion
Starring Deepika Padukone and Shahrukh Khan, the film collected ₹1 billion in its opening weekend and grossed a total of ₹2,27 billion at the domestic box office. Chennai Express tells the story of Rahul Mithaiwala (played by Shahrukh), who accidentally boards the eponymous train and journeys from Mumba to Rameswaram, falls for the daughter of a local don (played by Deepika Padukone).
6. Bol Bachchan (2012), ₹1,03 billion
The Abhishek Bachchan and Ajay Devgn starrer movies earned a total of ₹1,03 billion at the domestic box office. Bol Bachchan could not be Rohit's most memorable film but it gave lots of laughter to the viewer when it came out.
7. Singham (2011), ₹1,003 billion
Due to the success of Singham, Rohit is on his way to create the cop-universe in Bollywood. This Ajay Devgn starrer movie gained ₹1,003 billion during its run at the domestic box office. Singham has welcomed more fans and audience over the last few years, thanks to the satellite run as well as the big love for Simmba and Singham that Rohit Shetty is geared to release the third cop franchise collaborated with actor Akshay Kumar named Sooryavanshi.
8. Golmaal 3 (2010), ₹1,06 billion
Golmaal 3 also released in Diwali and clashed with Akshay Kumar’s Action Replayy. While the previous film was pretty forgettable, Golmaal 3 was one typical Rohit Shetty movie that improved this comedy franchise. Starring a strong cast of Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi and Tusshar Kapoor, this film successful earned ₹1,06 billion at the domestic box office.
