“The Accident Prime Minister” Review: Anupam Kher Worst Performance
Mina Muzumdar|Jan 15, 2019
To sum up the whole movie, it was unsubtle and vaguely portraited at best. Furthermore, this perhaps is the worst performance yet of Anupam Kher who played the former PM Manmohan Singh.

Amongst an ocean of movies that vaguely resemble each other, which is a different way of saying that movies nowadays are missing their unique touch and characteristics, The Accidental Prime Minister starred Anupam Kher in the lead role floats aimlessly on the surface as a big flop and a clear example of a movie that loses its identity.
Let’s put it this way: The movie seemed to pick the cast solely based on their hairlines. This terrible representation of the characters is either because of or the lack of ideas and direction from the get-go, or the appalling execution of the whole cast and crew throughout the movie. Either way, it still cannot overshadow the utterly horrendous and laughable performance of Anupam Kher, who plays the main character that the film is named after, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
In the movie, the character Prime Minister has a high-pitch and “out-of-breath” voice which for some reasons, Anupam Kher thought it is a good way to portrait the character. And as a cherry on top, Kher sometimes reminds us that he is an actor doing the acting by putting on a hilarious performance of what can only be described as “The worst impression ever done on screen”: The flappy hands. Kher thinks that by focusing on the weird and overly exaggerated movement that the PM supposedly did, the actor can convince the audience that he is playing a real-life character.
In the past, Manmohan Singh although being a quiet individual, his actions and political stance speaks louder than words. However, this side of Dr. Singh was omitted entirely in the movie and instead built up by poor character development which led to a character that sadly has no personality or identity.
Some movies don’t take themselves seriously, and they worked. Some movies took themselves seriously and failed gloriously which in turns made them somewhat enjoyable. And some movies take themselves seriously, failed miserably, and left a bitter taste in the mouth of the audience. The Accident Prime Minister failed on many fronts, but the one thing it disappointed everyone the most was how it took a rather interesting idea of a real person with real stories and impacts and brought it on screen in the sloppiest way without any care or attention to details. The cast was forgetful, to say the least, and Anupam Kher’s performance made us feel sorry for laughing at it.
