Over the recent protests in Hong Kong and India, we might have been confusing about the happening issues. The following rebellion movies will help you understand more about such protests.

The fate leading protests to step into the return of rebel film was the duration of the 1968 Cannes Film Festival taking place in France on May 10th that year. The ceremony was adumbrated by the spreading protests of students from Sorbonne University. They bestrewed over the policies of the French government, even breaking the education rules.

At that time, there were about half the screenings canceled while some film directors including Jean-Luc Godard standing by the students. Recently, some protests happen in Asia such as the ongoing Hong Kong protests and CAB protest over civilization and JNU student fee hike just now. 1967 - La Chinoise

Following the end of the New-Wave period by Jean-Luc Godard, La Chinoise revolved around the fierce forces of students’ Leftist groups. 1968 -  If…

Lindsay Anderson directorial told a story about student revolt in which Malcolm McDowell and his mates at a public school take inspiration from Che Guevara to make a rebellion against figures of authority. The movie also caught the zeitgeist of anti-establishment when the rebellious Sixties were touching a high note upward.

1970 – Zabriskie Point

No superstars or a skillful actor, Zabriskie Point under Michelangelo Antonioni’s direction was a hit thanks to the stellar performances by Mark Frechette and Daria Halprin. At the time portraying in this counter-culture movie over civil rights in America, Daria Halprin was just studying at a high school. Meanwhile, the fate bringing Mark to one the most-watch rebellion movies was more special when the director caught him arguing with his assistant at a bus stop and found his fitting attitude for the film.

1987 – Yeh Wo Manzil Toh Nahin

The film about a trio of former student activists bagged a National Award for Sudhir Mishra. Besides, they were also friends of each other that they recalled the back days of their comeback to the university on the occasion of its centenary ceremony. Walking down the memory lane, they replayed the days when three of them were just students at that university.

Yeh Wo Manzil Toh Nahin was another film talking about student’s radicalism in the 70s based on the uprising of Naxalite. The director later made one more film on the same topic, which was the 2003 directorial Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi. However, in the eyes of the onlookers, Yeh Wo Manzil Toh Nahin deserved a higher hill over the second one.

2012 – Those Who Make Revolution Halfway Only Dig Their Own Graves

Taking three hours in the duration of the show, the film is a story about the radicals who raised the slogans and extremely angrily joined the 2012 student revolt in Quebec. A quartet of young people stay under a commune and watch the elders to be sold. But the powerful point of the movie pushed by directors Simon Lavoie and Mathieu Denis was four of them were limited when undergoing the student rebellions.

We might not imagine when the ongoing protest will come to an end, but these above movies marking the return of rebel film would remind us of how precarious it is in our current society. Protests break out, reflecting a nation embracing a lot of struggles and inner uncertainties. What the government could do now is calming down the rebellion groups, re-consider and re-establish the laws to be a good companion with the civils of the nation as much as possible.
