Coronavirus has been creating a big crisis across the world with the number of new infectious cases growing every day. Amid the increasing concerns over the rapid spread of this novel virus, two high school students from KIIT World School, Pitampura in Delhi have jointly invented a robot that helps healthcare personnel protect themselves from COVID-1 9 patients.
Nishant Chandna grade 10) and Saurav Maheshkar grade 12) have invented a robot named Prithvi for the sake of reducing unwanted contact between healthcare staff and Coronavirus patients. The process of conceptualization, design and building the robot came after the nationwide lockdown order of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in an attempt to prevent the spread of the infectious virus.
In an interview, Chandna 15) opened up on the purpose of creating Prithvi. He said that they wanted to design something that helps medical staff who are fighting against the virus at the frontline.
Explaining further over how the robot work, he said,
“the robot is designed to dispense food and medicine to patients and is controlled remotely through an app downloaded on a smartphone. A smart tablet can also be attached to the robot, enabling video conferencing between doctors and patients. We’re also considering adding an additional feature, in the form of a temperature gun. That way patients can check their own temperature, minimizing the risk to doctors and nurses.”
The fact is that two high school students made the robot with a very budget-friendly cost at nearly Rs 5000. It is made of a programmable board, cardboard, and just some basic motors.
