Relationships are difficult to maintain. Every day, we try our best to make it works, because we have developed feelings for one another. However, nobody's perfect, and relationships can end in a flash.
It's sad that a million factors can end a relationship, but maybe even more so when couples drift apart due to one's little habits gradually drive the other away. Here are a few of the most common relationship-enders we have found that you can have a look and try to steer clear from.
1. Being a control freak
This habit might fall under the radar, as you subconsciously do it even if you're not aware of doing it. Everyone loves to have things go "their way", but constantly nagging and insisting that you're partner follow each and every one of your instructions can be damaging to a relationship. No one likes a control freak.
You and your beloved are full-grown adults, and none of you wants to be or needs to be, monitored every 5 seconds. Whether it's driving or the housework or whatever it is, let your partner be on his own.
2. Interruption
Communication is a key factor in a relationship. Nothing destroys a conversation more than one person keeps jumping the gun on a topic. Everyone should have a chance to speak their mind, even more so if he or she is your partner. A tip is to focus on his words and not get distracted and try to hold back whatever you want to say until he's done.
If you think whatever you have to say is important, ask yourself this: Isn't the person you love more important?
3. Being overly critical
Feeling constantly criticized by the person you're dating can be really painful. Disagreements, tense moments, and fights are not uncommon. But healthy conflict and constant criticism are not the same things. If you're feeling your lover is always bringing you down, it may be time for a serious talk.
Same from your side, because if you feel like you're nit-picking even the smallest of problems with a disapproving tone, a rift in the relationship will be inevitable.
4. Lack of empathy for emotional distress.
When one member of a couple is in distress, be it emotionally or professionally, he needs a shoulder to lean on. Failing to do so will have a devastating impact. We expect our partner to be the person we can always look at for support and compassion during challenging times, and when they are repeatedly unavailable to do so, the other will certainly feel dejected.
No amount of excuses can save a lack of empathy.
5. Taking him for granted
When you spend a lot of time with someone for long enough, you are sometimes guilty of taking him for granted. However, the increasing level of comfort you and your partner have with one another does not mean he will always be around when you need him.
A relationship needs to be back and forth, but if you're the only one taking, that will become a serious issue later on. It's best to ask your boyfriend if he ever feels like the mule in the relationship and starts giving him the care he desperately needs.
