According to the Hollywood Reporter, Sony Pictures is focusing on Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, all-female spinoff, and a few weeks later, Sony revealed the animated film for Spider-Verse.
Lauren Montgomery, co-director for DC animated movies Superman/Batman: Apocalypse and Batman: Year One, is in talks to direct an unnamed Spider project. This upcoming film will bring about the female superheroes in the Spider-Man universe for the sequel. The script will be penned by Bek Smith, a writer for the CBS show Zoo. Amy Pascal will be in charge of producing Spider-Verse and the live-action film.
Though further details have been kept closely under wraps, there is a rumor that the film could involve with Spider-Woman, Spider-Gwen, Spider-Girl, Silk and Madame Web. Also, Miles Morales takes center stage and Spider-Gwen believed to be the main character. Chris Miller and Phil Lord, the original brainiacs behind The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street, are expected to be involved creatively.
The sequel will follow a teen Miles Morales, who possesses limitless possibilities of the Spider-Verse, takes responsibilities to protect the world. Miles will receive support from Peter Parker, a gamble but kind and warm-hearted.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is slated to open on December 14.
