Sophie Turner's mental problems are no stranger to the public, indeed her fans. She has disclosed this fact in the past, but we never knew how severe it was until now.
During a podcast interview with Dr. Phil, the young actress shared some surprising insights about her struggle with mental instability. Turner said her battle with depression began at the age of 17 when she was four years in the filming of the hit series Game of Thrones as the character Sansa Stark.
The actress went into details with Dr. Phil that although she wasn't depressed then, she gave a lot of thought to suicide. At the time, she was confused about this predicament, recalling it to be a "weird fascination" but couldn't explain why she would consider killing herself. Later, she admits that she wouldn't have committed to the act.
According to Turner, the cause of her mental issues was the continual negativity against her on social media. Millions of people who watch Game of Thrones ceaselessly bombarded her with comments about her weight, her appearance, and her acting. She said it made her insecure and self-conscious. Then, it got to the point that Sophie didn't even want to leave the house on her day off. And she would dread every moment she had to do so. "I just would cry and cry and cry," she exclaimed.
Fortunately, things turned out for the better for Sophie. About a year ago, she finally talked to her parents about her condition after they noticed her therapy bills. Today, thanks to therapy and her fiance, the singer Joe Jonas, she pulled through the worst and started feeling better. Sophie said it was Joe's love that cast away the self-doubt and helps her learned to love herself.
