Fantastic Beasts The Crimes of Grindelwald: Who Is Gellert Grindelwald?

Only a few days does Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald come out. This is the second film in the Fantastic Beasts series and tenth feature in the Wizarding World.

If Harry Potter’s series see Voldemort as the biggest villain, Fantastic Beasts has Gellert Grindelwald, the Dark Wizard who wants to throw the magical world into turmoil and ruling the Muggles.

So, who is Gellert Grindelwald?

The darkest wizard was once educated at Europe’s Durmstrang Institute, which was different from Hogwarts because its curriculum was the Dark Arts.

Though Grindelwald was an extraordinarily outstanding and talented student, he became so hooked on the Dark Arts that he was eventually suspended from school due to some frightening experiments.

Grindelwald met young Albus by chance in Godric’s Hollow when he was in search of the Deathly Hallows. Both of them were young, energetic, idealistic and quickly became firm friends.

Meanwhile, Dumbledore was born and grew up in an unhappy family which his mother was dead by out-of-control magical powers of his sister and his father was put in prison and had to live in Azkaban for the rest of his life. His sister Ariana suffered torments of three Muggle boys after they saw her magic showing. The incident traumatized her and possibly turned her into an obscurial.

Let’s return to Grindelwald, the duo shared their same interest in the Deathly Hallows and other powerful magical objects including Elder Wand, Resurrection Stone, and Cloak of Invisibility.  Even though they both wanted to possess them, but for different purposes.

While Dumbledore hoped to bring his parents to come back, Grindelwald ambitioned to raise an army and began a campaign of terror across Europe.

They quarreled with each other when a three-way confrontation triggered between Gellert, Albus and Aberforth struck and left Ariana dead. The Dumbledore’s brothers were devastated by her loss.

Grindelwald ran away and started his ‘career’ as a dark wizard that would reach his climax in a titanic magical duel in 1945. Grindelwald was defeated, and control of the Elder Wand passed to Dumbledore
