It has been said by director Farah Khan lately that there is a possibility of Shahid Kapoor not winning an award by dint of his portrayal in Kabir Singh. Regardless of how mainstream the film has turned, there is a reason for why the lead man of blockbuster has such risk.
Speaking of how famous awards’ organizers might have a second thought on granting the controversial movie an award, Farah Khan shared in a Bollywood Hungama interview:

While being questioned whether the criticism is really a big deal since the movie is a big hit with the grossing of over Rs 372 crore worldwide, the filmmaker opened up,
Shahid Kapoor had admitted that Kabir Singh is the most imperfect character he had ever portrayed. The movie became his greatest solo megahit.
In a talk with Hindustan Times, the actor shared about the success of the film,
Kabir Singh movie was an Arjun Reddy remake. Alongside Shahid Kapoor was Kiara Advani who took on the heroine role of the film.
