Shah Rukh Khan Declines The Offer To Play Mogambo In “Mr. India”

Shah Rukh Khan is yet to announce his next project after the debacle of Zero (2018) alongside Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma. Though his name has been linked to a number of movies in the past one year, the superstar has time and again come forward to deny all baseless reports about his association with a slew of projects.

Interestingly, Khan’s name is being linked to yet another project. As we all know that ZEE Studios has announced their plans to bankroll a sequel to the cult classic Mr. India (1987), which will be written and directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, who has to his credit several successful films like Sultan (2016), Tiger Zinda Hai (2017) and Bharat (2019).

Since the news came out, speculations have been rife in the tinsel town of Bollywood that Ranveer Singh and Shah Rukh Khan will play the roles of Mr. India and Magambo respectively. However, if latest reports are to be believed, the superstar has turned down the offer to play the antagonist in the film.

A source in the known informs a publication that director Ali Abbas Zafar approached Shah Rukh Khan for the role of Mogambo in Mr. India, but the superstar declined the role. It would be foolhardy for him to take on an iconic role like Mogambo, which Amrish Puri has immortalised. It would be stupid of any actor to touch that role. Shah Rukh, in any case, is not doing any negative roles.

In a statement, ZEE Studios revealed that Mr. India is not a part 2 or a remake of the older film as recently reported in some sections of the media, but a re-imagining of the iconic classic. More details on the upcoming project are expected to arrive soon.
