Radhika Apte feels everyone should come together to create safe workplaces where any kind of abuse is neither exercised nor tolerated.

Radhika Apte thinks it is good to speak up the sexual harassment

Everyone deserves to work in a safe working environment without sexual harassment. However, sexual harassment has been a popular social evil happening with women in numerous fields, especially in Bollywood. They have been too anxious to publicly speak about this issue although they are the sufferers. But recently people have spoken up the hot issue.

The actress completely supports the movement

The #Metoo movement has broken out in many countries all around the world, including India. Sexual assault has existed in many fields for a long time but women don’t dare to raise their voice although they are the “victims”. Thanks to the movement, many women have enough courage and motivation to speak about it in public. Radhika Apte is also in sympathy with the movement. She feels that creating a safe working environment for everyone is a must. At first, the workplace needs to be as safe as a house for actors to avoid sexual abuse cases.

In an interview with IANS, Radhika said that actors were trying to create a working environment where the sexual harassment no longer continued. A system would be set up to suitably deal with the power misuse within the film industry. For her, talking and condemning sexual assault was a good sign because at least women did something to protect themselves. Consequently, she totally supported the #Metoo movement. She also hoped that everyone could work in safety soon.

What kicked off the movement?

In September, Tanushree Dutta, an Indian actress, shared the alleged harassment relating to Nana Patekar that she suffered from ten years ago. It has kicked off the #Metoo campaign in India. After that, a series of scandals around several Indian actors like Gursimran Khamba, Anu Malik, Alok Nath, etc had been mentioned.

Radhika Apte strongly expressed her perspective about this social issue. She believed that it was time Bollywood strived to prevent the state from sexual abuse in the workplace. There is no need to put up with the sexual assault. There should be a system that guarantees the safety of the workplace. Also, women should have the feeling of being protected and secure in case they want to speak up what problem they are facing without any anxiety. Nothing is able to be worse than having to work in an environment fearing of sexual harassment issue without being courageous enough to talk about that.
