Apart from the box office collection, Kalank has received mixed criticism and reviews. There is no doubt about Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt’s star performances. Its predictable and lengthy narrative, however, is a downside.

According to trade analyst Joginder Tuteja, the movie’s collection in the global market has reached Rs 51 core, higher than in the domestic one.

With Rs 21.06 crore of the collection on the first day, Kalank has become the highest opener of 2019 so far. It is also marked as the highest opener for Varun and Alia Bhatt’s careers. Mahavir Jayanti Holiday on April 20th must be the main reason for this box office record.

Kesari Is No Longer The Highest Opener Of The Year

With the rise of Kalank, Akshay Kumar starrer Kesari was outweighed to become the second highest opening grosser of the year. Meanwhile, Gully Boy starring Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh ranks third with Rs 19.41 crore in its opening day.

Before the release of Kalank, Varun’s highest opening grosser belongs to Dilwale with Rs 21 crore. Meanwhile, his co-star Alia Bhatt had Gully Boy as her previous highest opener. The last time both of them were seen together was in Badrinath Ki Dulhania (2017) which recorded Rs 12.25 crore on its release date.

Set back in the 1940s on a lavish and grand background, Kalank is the story of family, emotions, and passion. The movie also stars Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri, Sonakshi Sinha, and Aditya Roy Kapoor. The film was helmed by director Abhishek Varman and produced by Karan Johar.
