Kajol Talks About Playing Savitribai Without Any Reference

Kajol plays the female lead opposite husband Ajay Devgn in the upcoming film “Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior”. The movie is scheduled to release on 10th January, 2020.

Kajol, who was last seen in Helicopter Eela (2018), is gearing up to grace the silver screen once again with the upcoming film Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior. The high-profile project stars her husband and National Film Award winning actor Ajay Devgn in the title role. Talented actor Saif Ali Khan is playing the antagonist in the war period drama, directed by Om Raut.

Set in the 17th century, Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior is based on the life of Tanhaji Malusare, the military leader of Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Kajol is playing Tanaji Malusare’s wife Savitribai in the period drama. This is going to be the first historical film for the actress who has been working in films for more than two decades now. Kajol says that since there was no reference point to play.

Savitribai, she felt responsible towards her character in the film.

In an interview with a newswire, Kajol said that the sense of responsibility for the particular character of Savitribai was that she had no reference point and hence, she could not compare her to anybody. In absence of a reference point, Kajol had to convince herself that what she was doing was the right thing. That was a task, said the actress.

The actress credited director Om Raut and costume designer Nachiket Barve for doing thorough research before rolling the camera. She said that both of them did thorough research, questioned and verified all the facts. She added that she followed what they had to say.

Directed by Om Raut, Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior is produced by Ajay Devgn under the banner of Ajay Devgn Ffilms. The much-awaited film is scheduled to hit the marquee on 10th January, 2020.
