IIFA Cancelled Due To Coronavirus Scare, New Dates To Be Announced Soon

India has reported total of 31 cases related to Coronavirus. Several award functions and events have been cancelled for health and safety reasons.

Coronavirus has surpassed 100,000 cases globally while in India 31 cases have been reported so far. Several public events and celebrations have been cancelled due to outbreak of this deadly virus. The International Indian Film Academy Awards 2020 (IIFA) announced that they will be cancelling the event. The event organizers will announce fresh dates of the event. IIFA had scheduled for March 21 in Bhopal, the actual three-day IIFA 2020 was set to take place in Indore from March 27 to 29.
In 2019, IIFA made a homecoming and the event was organized at Dome NSCI SVP Stadium in Mumbai. One of the prestigious award function of Bollywood, IIFA was launched in the year 2000. With several celebrities attending the event, it makes a huge amount of money. Ticket prices run into lakhs of rupees and organizers and broadcast channels make money through sponsors and advertisers.
However, due to coronavirus scare throughout the world, the event which was scheduled in March end at Indore in Madhya Pradesh stands cancelled. An official statement to media houses, IIFA organizers stated that due to growing concerns around the spread of COVID-19 virus, the events have been cancelled. The organizers have consulted the Madhya Pradesh Government regarding the situation and for health safety of IIFA fans and other stakeholders in film industry will postpone the date of IIFA Weekend and Awards 2020.
The statement further stated that fresh dates for hosting IIFA in Madhya Pradesh will be announced at the earliest. The statement read, "IIFA is fully committed to ensure the safety of the citizens and legions of IIFA fans who travel from across the globe to attend and experience the magic of IIFA.We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused, and hope that all concerned understand the sensitivity of the situation" Recently, Deepika Padukone cancelled her trip to France to attend Louis Vuitton’s FW2020 Show at the ongoing Paris Fashion Week.
