Born with a silver spoon, in every sense of the word, Ranbir Kapoor is the conventional Bollywood hero.
When people are busy debating on nepotism, he proved that only talent can take you far in the industry. Ranbir has proved with his powerful acting that he is more than just a handsome face.
Though his career graph might see a lot of ups and downs, flops and hits, Ranbir, who made his Bollywood debut with 2008 film Saawariya, is said to be one of the most successful actors of today, courtesy his stellar performances in many hits.
In the 12 years that Ranbir Kapoor has been in the industry, he has always tried to push the envelope while choosing his roles. On the actor’s 35th birthday today, have a look at some of his films that prove he is way ahead of his contemporaries.
Wake Up Sid
From acting like a carefree boy to a responsible man, Ranbir's acting skills were tested in the film. As the character Sid developed, Ranbir's acting too blossomed and we absolutely loved the transformation!
The character of Siddharth Mehra aka Sid portrayed by Ranbir in Ayan Mukerji's Wake Up Sid is popular amongst the teenagers due to his connect and the reality of what a college student goes through post completing their degree.
Rockstar
Before Rockstar, Ranbir had good movies in his kitty, but his acting prowess was not used to its potential. This film can be called as a gamechanger in Ranbir’s career. This is the first film earned him Filmfare Award for Best Actor.
Rockstar is a journey about a man named Janardhan aka Jordan (played by Ranbir Kapoor) who goes from being an ordinary college student to an international rock sensation.
Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani
Ranbir collaborated with Ayan Mukerji and ex Deepika Padukone for Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani - a fun-filled saga of love and friendship. Ranbir played Kabeer Thapar (Bunny) a wanderer whose dream is to travel and discover the world.
The film did great business and was the tenth highest-grossing Bollywood film in overseas markets in the year 2013. Ranbir also won the best actor award at the 59th Filmfare awards.
Barfi
Barfi! was a 2012 romantic comedy, written and directed by Anurag Basu. Playing a mute is always a hard job for any actor but Ranbir portrayed his character effortlessly and convincingly. Barfi has got to be one of the best roles played by Ranbir and what stole our hearts was the scene when the adorable character finally finds love!
Ranbir’s outstanding performance in Barfi definitely didn’t go unnoticed as he bagged the Filmfare Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role (Male). Meanwhile, the film made it big in foreign shores by winning the best film award at the first edition of the South Africa India Film and Television Awards.
Tamasha
This Imtiaz Ali directorial which even featured Ranbir's ex-girlfriend Deepika Padukone opposite him didn't have a dream run at the box office, but it did strike the right chord with many.
Ranbir's character of Ved Vardhan Sahni managed to catch the essence of a residual mental disorder person and Ranbir has left no stone unturned in acing this role.
Imtiaz Ali spilt the beans on working with Ranbir Kapoor.
Sanju
Sanju, which was directed by Sanjay Dutt’s close pal Rajkumar Hirani describes the highs and lows in the life of Sanjay Dutt. We all know that Sanjay Dutt has had a rather controversial life with the society labelling him with tags like a drug addict and a terrorist.
Right from the release of the teaser, Ranbir not only looked believable as Sanjay, but he also acted convincingly too. Capturing the macho avatar with a soft heart of Sanjay Dutt is not an easy task, but leave it to Ranbir to win hearts over.
Ranbir Kapoor has won the award for Best Actor In A Leading Role (Male) for his performance in Sanju at the 64th Filmfare Awards 2019.
