Before hitting the theatres, Chhapaak was expected to be a blockbuster at the box office as it was promoted intensely and got a lot of positive feedbacks. The film has completed its run in week 1 of the box office. However, what it collected after that has gone in reverse to what people had predicted, which has disappointed many audiences.
Since 2011, Deepika’s career has flown high like a duck in water and most of her films created a hit at the box office and ranked in the list of the year. Prior to Chhapaak, her latest movie Padmaavat directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali was an out-and-out flick to mark a new phase in the actress’s professional life. The blockbuster featuring Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor as well earned more than Rs 302 crore in its lifetime. Thanks to it, numerous people have put their trust in the well-promoted film to become another hit in Deepika’s acting career.
Crashing with Ajay Devgn’s Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior on the same day of release, Deepika’s Chhapaak has witnessed a merciless interruption. The lukewarm movie has had a disappointing collection of Rs 28.38 crore to the bank in the opening week. In the last nine years of the actress’s career, this is the lowest box-office collection for week 1. Back in 2011, another film of the 34-year-old actress which is Prakash Jha directorial Aarakshan had earned Rs 26.52 crore in the first week.
In spite of welcoming a range of favorable reviews on the film, Chhapaak which also stars Vikrant Massey failed to attract the audience to the theatres. Meanwhile, the same day releasing film Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior has collected Rs 118 plus crore in its opening week.
