Akshay Kumar On Citizenship Controversy: "I Have Never Denied That I Hold A Canadian Passport"

Akshay Kumar issued a statement about his citizenship after his absence was called out at the recent Lok Sabha Elections 2019 in Mumbai.

one of the biggest releasesAkshay Kumar said that he never hid the fact that he holds a Canadian passport. The superstar was strictly slammed for not casting his ballot in the election after his wife, Twinkle Khanna, was seen at polling booth except for her husband.

At the screening of film Blank, when being asked about how he would react to the criticism over his absence from the voting booth, Akshay Kumar dismissed the question with a smile and walked off.  In no time, the actor, who wears patriotism on his sleeves, was trolled.

Akshay Kumar was the first Bollywood celebrities to be tagged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to encourage people to vote. He was recently seen in a one to one interaction with PM Modi on totally unpolitical grounds.

Reacting to those trolls, Akshay Kumar has issued an official statement admitting his Canadian citizenship. Akshay said in a statement.

Though holding a Canadian passport, his love has always been for his motherland India. In fact, the actor showed his disappointment that his citizenship was being dragged into “needless controversy.”

After Akshay Kumar’s statement, many Bollywood celebrities came out to support him including film exhibitor Akshaye Rathi, actor RJ Salil Acharya, and collaborator Paresh Rawal. 

On the work front, Akshay Kumar has several projects in his kitty. He is prepping for the release of his upcoming films Good News with Kareena Kapoor. Before that, he has two other releases in Mission Mangal and Housefull 4. Akshay will also reunite on the big screen with Katrina Kaif after a decade in Rohit Shetty cop-drama, Sooryavanshi.
