Bollywood films have always been the target of Internet trolls over the silly content every now and then. As 2019 is coming to close, on the last day of the year, it’s the perfect time to take a fun walk down memory lane to review some of the most trolled films in the year.
Student Of The Year 2
2019 didn’t treat Karan Johar well as both of his two releases soon turned out to be box office flops and become two of the most trolled films. The filmmaker successfully launched Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan in Student Of The Year. However, it wasn’t enough as Karan decided to introduce one more celebrity kid Ananya Panday in the sequel to SOTY. When the trailer was out, the film got black bash for poor acting and an old-fashioned storyline.
Student Of The Year 2 stared Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff whose forte is the action genre. No prize for guessing, he couldn’t show his best in a school-themed drama. Not just this, Ananya Panday’s acting mettle also made headlines as her performance didn’t do down well with the audiences.
Collecting only Rs 70.66 crore, but at least, the movie successfully boosted the name of two such new kids on the block.
Kalank
The name of Karan Johar was called out once again with the second failure in 2019. Like SOTY 2, Kalank also faced the same fate and became one of the most trolled films of the year. Hitting the theaters on 17 April, the film starred two of the most sought-after Jodis of Bollywood, Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan. However, despite the appearance of Bollywood’s much-loved actors, the film couldn’t create a storm at the ticket window.
The fact that it was a mega-budget film with Rs 150 crore in the investment but the collection just came at Rs 81 crore. The film received a lukewarm response from the audience and the reviews from the critics were mostly negative and sadly Kalank has been the biggest disaster of the year so far. Many netizens said that they could not watch the whole film and even decided to exit the theater before the interval.
Saaho
Another overrated film also found itself at the center of the social media trolls was Saaho. The fact is that Saaho was one of the most awaited releases, though it didn’t perform well at the ticket window. The film got several negative reviews from the audiences and the critics and of course, hilarious memes were flooded on social media.
Housefull 4
The list would not be complete without mentioning Akshay Kumar’s Housefull 4. The netizens don’t spare anyone even superstar like Akshay who owns a huge number of blockbusters to his credit. Even though the film’s box office collection wasn’t a small figure, it was still trolled mercilessly during its theatrical run.
Kabir Singh
Unlike all the afore-mentioned movies, Kabir Singh made it to the list of highest grossers of the year. However, it doesn’t mean Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani-starrer film didn’t get trolled. Though instead of being one of the most trolled films due to poor acting or direction, a few scenes in the film stirred controversy. Kabir Singh has been consistently come under fire for being misogynistic and violent as there was one scene showing Kabir (played by Shahid Kapoor) slapping Preeti (played by Kiara Advani). No prize for guessing, it invited the wrath of many audiences.
As 2020 is so close, we wish there will be another successful year for the film industry with a lot of blockbusters and several top-notch performances.
