The making of the upcoming Game of Thrones’ final season was such a large-scale production. And every fans' anticipation will be worth its weight in gold.
There have been rumours that the cast and crew spent 90 days shooting a battle sequence, and an episode is 40 minutes long. If this is true, the concluding season is going to be the most superb in cinematic history.
HBO chief Richard Pleper said that every episode is such an epic, that it felt like he was watching a movie.
Talking about the final season, crew members and actors said this was the most torturous production in their career. Kit Harrington, who played Jon Snow, shared that everyone broke down when they finished filming. The actor couldn't tell why they burst into tears at the end. “Everyone was broken at the end. I don’t know if we were crying because we were sad it was ending or if we were crying because it was so **** tiring," he said
Harrington recalled that everyone had sleep deprivation and how worn out they were. Afterwards, he exclaimed that although Game of Thrones was the greatest thing that came to his life, he was relieved to move on finally.
A report from Entertainment Weekly later revealed more details about how treacherous the shooting was. For one of the show's battle, the crew had to do a 3-month-long filming session in sub-freezing temperature.
As the excitement before the release piled up, HBO announced it would close out the series with a 2-hour behind-the-scenes documentary on May 26th. Also, acclaimed filmmaker Jeanie Finlay will be its director. HBO described this documentary as an in-depth look at how the crew faced the harsh winter, brutal time limit and a fandom craving for spoilers.
Fans of the show can watch the documentary after it airs on May 27.
