FX Far Cry Adds Gleeson, Leigh and Three More Stars

FX has expanded the cast of its Far Cry series with five new actors. Brendan Gleeson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Hamish Linklater, Sam Spruell, and Jamie Demetriou will appear in the first season of the Ubisoft video game adaptation created by Noah Hawley and Rob Mac.

They join previously announced stars Mac, Lizzy Caplan, and Steve Buscemi. As with earlier announcements, FX has not revealed what roles the new actors will play.

Who Is Joining the Show

Gleeson is known for The Banshees of Inisherin and In Bruges. Leigh starred in The Hateful Eight and in season five of Hawley's Fargo. Linklater appeared in Fargo season three and Legion, and more recently in Widow's Bay and Midnight Mass.

Spruell has credits in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and Alien: Earth. Demetriou is known for Stath Lets Flats and The Afterparty, with upcoming work in Only Murders in the Building and a Pride and Prejudice adaptation.

Leigh, Linklater, and Spruell have all worked with Hawley before. That history suggests the first season will lean on the same mix of dark humor and volatility that defined Fargo and Legion.

How the Series Will Work

Far Cry will follow an anthology format, matching the games. Each season will use a new setting and a new set of characters. Plot details for season one remain under wraps. The series was first reported at FX in November 2025. It will air on FX and Hulu in the United States and on Disney+ internationally. No premiere date has been set.

The games, which ran from 2004 through Far Cry 6 in 2021, are known for open worlds, first person action, and memorable villains. Hawley has said the franchise works like Fargo: each entry is a variation on a theme. Mac, who will also star, is producing through More Better Productions. Hawley is producing through 26 Keys. FX Productions is making the show, with Ubisoft Film and Television involved.

What Comes Next

The latest casting push comes as the project moves closer to cameras. With eight names now attached and no role descriptions public, the first season is still a mystery box. The talent on board, and Hawley's record with ensemble crime stories, make it one of FX's more closely watched game adaptations.
