The Southeast Asian country, Vietnam which has recorded no death tolls from COVID-19 pandemic is recently back on high alert after the 99-day zero local transmission streak. The government of this country is instantly evacuating around 80,000 people from the tourist attraction Danang after three residents were confirmed positive for the virus.
Vietnam hasn’t opened the border to welcome international travelers yet, those being evacuated are mainly locals from other parts of this country. The evacuation is expected to last around four days. Domestic airlines are urgently operating about 100 flights daily from Danang to 11 cities and all passengers turning from this city will have to self-isolate at home for two weeks.
The Vietnamese government has imposed extremely strict quarantine measures and run a nationwide and aggressive testing programme since the first case was found in this country.
As it’s still closed to international travelers, a lot of discounted flights as well as holiday packages have been launched to boost domestic tourism. That’s why there has been a surge in local tourists flocking to Danang.
Residents in Danang are advised to practice quarantine and social distancing and only leave home for essentials. In fact, according to state media, the government announced over 1500 Chinese people had been caught as they crossed the border illegally from China into Vietnam since May.
However, it’s still not clear whether new cases got infected from such people who entered Danang secretly or not.
Meanwhile, the number of confirmed cases in India has climbed to 1,482,503. The government has been struggling to flatten the Coronavirus daily new cases curve but it seems like the country hasn’t surpassed the peak yet.
