Feelings do exist among the animals, there are no two ways about it. In a very heartwarming incident taking place at a Zoo in Germany recently, a mother-daughter elephant pair could reunite after a 12-year separation.
The staff of the Zoo Halle witnessed an emotional reunion of a 39-year-old elephant, Pori, and her 19-year-old daughter, Tana. Only best moms get promoted to grandma and Pori is the case in point. She has also become the grandmother of two baby elephants. After more than a decade, not only did she meet her long-lost daughter but also got to see her granddaughters, Elani (1) and Tamika (4).
On the Zoo’s Facebook account, they also shared the sweet and heart-touching photos of the elephant family along with an announcement that they have been let out of the enclosures to meet and mingle physically.
For those who are unversed, Pori came to Halle from Berlin where she gave birth to her daughter in 2001. When Tana turned 7, she had to leave her mother. In fact, elephants always live with each other in herds and they follow a matriarchal family structure while male elephants mainly leave the herds when they are ready to be mating.

The grandma Pori was actually born in Africa in the year 1981 and then brought to Germany when she was two years old. After some relocations, Pori was eventually moved to the Berlin Zoo for breeding.
As per a special “tradition” of the elephants, Pori and Tana could be seen shooting sand on each other’s back to express their feelings when they could unite after a long time.
When meeting her granddaughters, Pori carefully approached them and both Tamika and Elani didn’t take much time to stand under their great grandmother’s belly in a very brave way.
The emotional reunion of the elephant family, needless to say, grab eyeballs from the netizens. And how about you? What do you think about it? Let us know!
