‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’ is a fine tribute to the soldiers that gave up their lives for the future of Indian citizens. No words are heavy enough to show the gratitude to the sacrifices they made.

Uri: The Surgical Strike

Rating: 3.5/5

Story: The movie illustrates the surgical strike of the Indian army back in 2016 to avenge the terrorist attack in Uri by the Pakistan military. 19 Indian soldiers sacrificed in the terrorist attack, for which the militant release in Pakistan taking Kashmir had to pay with the death of 35 - 50 people in a secret operation. Afterwards, Pakistan denied what had happened.

Review: The relentless war drama of Aditya Dhar follows the surgical strikes and events leading to it through the point of view of the leading character Major Vihaan Singh, played by Vicky Kaushal. As if the war is not harsh enough for him, he also has his own battles to face with at home.

First off, Vicky Kaushal seems to be on his streak of success. It is quite intriguing that he took another role of a soldier, but this time the actor has switched his sides from Pakistan to the Indian Army. He played a courageous Pakistan Military officer in ‘Raazi’ and recently, he’s an indestructible Para Commando of the Indian Army. Vicky has been successful in carving his own niche with complex roles. The man’s performance is candid and heartfelt, which add depths to the movie naturally. Without it, Uri: The Surgical Strike would have lacked the discernible tension supposed to be in a war drama. Its enthrallment does not come from the execution but the boldness of the mission that the execution continually unravels and revives. Even though the end result of the war was destined, audiences are still thrilled to watch till the end of the movie as stories get unfolded. The procedure is carried out strictly - how 80 Indian Para SF commandos try to penetrate PoK and devastate the terror camp. That procedure makes for an instructive observation if not captivating.

It’s the technical front that is noteworthy rather than the creativity. All of the battling scenes, lying in wait, gun-fire, fisticuffs, and sniper shots are real and does not need any VFX. The camera follows every step of the soldiers dexterously, and to make the storytelling even more appealing, the sound is a crucial part that was used effectively. If close your eyes, you can possibly feel like you’re on the battlefield with the sounds of weapons, bullets and the whispering of comrades.

On the other hand, even though it’s a war drama and based on true events, it’s understandable about the “drama” part where there are some questionable or far-fetched details in the movie. The attempt to bring in emotions to the movie is easy to see and does no harm. Other co-stars of Vicky Kaushal, Paresh Rawal, Yami Gautam, Mohit Raina, and Kirti Kulhari, play their roles effectively.
