Last month, BCCI refused to give a date on the resumption of crickets in the country. They affirmed that they would assess the situation carefully before making any decision for future actions.
“We are studying the directives. We will have to see how the state governments are going about it because some of the states have set different parameters for the lockdown. It is a state subject.”
Previously, the Board planned to reopen stadiums for skill training once the lockdown was lifted. However, things were more complicated than that when India seemed to unlock too early with the number of cases rising exponentially recently.
Though the BCCI hasn’t made any official announcement on the day crickets can reopen, we have some clues to say it won’t be back till September.
Kapil Dev, in his latest interview, said that we must look at a larger picture. He suggested the long-term benefits instead of risking the health of players and fans when resuming stadiums at an untimely period.
He wanted schools and colleges to reopen first. Then, BCCI would have enough time and data to evaluate the situation before deciding to reopen stadiums.
According to latest reports, schools and colleges reopening will start from August with different stages to ensure the safety for children. By September, all students can resume to their normal classes.
That is to say cricket matches will have to take a backseat and wait for the reopening of schools and colleges first. Should it yield positive results, sports can go after.

However, sports events can’t take place simultaneously when the resumption phase is launched. Though the stakeholders are eager to earn more revenue to compensate for the loss during COVID-19 pandemic, everyone must stick to guidelines from BCCI as well as the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Stadiums will be opened for player training first but not all cricketers can gather at once. Scattering number is the strategy to avoid coronavirus spread at initial stage. After every safety measures are ensured, matches can take place, with or without spectators, depending on the situation and decision from the authority.
We will provide more information on the resumption of cricket if have.
