Assistant director Varun Rajendran feels a sense of satisfaction with the result of the Sarkar plagiarism row. He has stated that he never needed money of the producer or ban on the Sarkar’s release. However, all he wanted was credit where credit’s due.
As was the case with AR Murugadoss, he decided to reach an out-of-court settlement for the issue. It means that before the film releases, Varun will get an appreciation note. It is likely to make Varun feel content even though it was not the exact credit for the whole story.
In an interview with Silverscreen, the filmmaker said, “Sengol is lost to me now. My Sengol is now the Sarkar for Vijay fans.”
He added he demanded to be credited for his story as he created it and Sengol reflects his endeavour. He also expressed his thought that those years of hard work needs to be recognized and the director affirmed the rumours around seeking remuneration are false.
Earlier, Varun Rajendran had filed the complaint to start his case at the South Indian Writer’s Association. However, the association had backed his claim by saying that Sengol and Sarkar were similar.
In regard to this, Varun has stated that at first, when he started knowing that Sarkar and Sengol were similar, he thought that it would be an insignificant battle. It stands to reason he approached writer unions in the sake of seeking solace. He further added that he was relatively glad when they backed his case.
Initially, AR Murugadoss blamed the association, headed by Bhagyaraj, and thought that the investigation of the case was one-sided. Due to the fact that AR Murugadoss believed the current president of Writer’s Association had not read his Sarkar’s full-bound script carefully yet and read only the synopsis.
On the day of the hearing, Murugadoss made up his mind to settle the case out of court and posted a video in which the director clarified the fact that there was a small similarity between Sengol and Sarkar.
Sakar is now scheduled to release on the day of Diwali, November 6.
