Rajinikanth To Get Pay Cut For “Thalaivar 168” After “Darbar” Debacle?

Rajinikanth returned to play a cop in his recent release Darbar (2020) after a long time. Also starring Nayanthara, Suniel Shetty and Prateik Babbar in important roles, the movie entered theatres with great pre-release buzz. However, the AR Murugadoss directorial just could not meet the high expectations of the audience and fizzled out at the box-office in no time. According to reports, the cop action drama has incurred heavy losses to the makers, with distributors planning to go on hunger strike in coming few days.

After the debacle of Darbar, megastar Rajinikanth has moved on to his next, tentatively titled Thalaivar 168. The project is being helmed by acclaimed filmmaker Siruthai Siva who is known for helming such successful films as Vedalam (2015), Vivegam (2017) and Viswasam (2019). According to reports, the shooting of the movie is currently underway in Hyderabad.

The latest we hear that since Darbar failed miserably at the box-office, the pay which was to be paid to Rajinikanth has been cut down. Buzz has it that Kalanithi Maran of Sun Pictures, who is producing Thalaivar 168 under his banner, recently met Rajinikanth on the sets of the film and requested the megastar to reduce his remuneration. At first, the superstar was surprised by the decision but then he agreed to bring his fees down. After the said pay cut, Rajinikanth will now take home a paycheque of Rs 58 crore, including GST, for his 168^th outing.

Talking about Thalaivar 168, the upcoming film features Rajinikanth alongside Keerthy Suresh, Nayanthara, Khushbu, Meena, Soori, Sathish, and others. Reportedly, Prakash Raj has been signed on to play the antagonist in it. The movie is scheduled for its theatrical release on Diwali 2020. More details are expected to arrive soon.
