Mohanlal starrer Lucifer has done very well at the ticket run when making large profits. This Prithviraj Sukumaran directorial doesn’t fail audiences’ expectation as it delivers such a compelling story-telling praised by both viewers and critics.
Moreover, it is the first Malayalam-language movie to enter the billion-dollar club when grossing over Rs 200 cr. And, it breaks the industry's record to be the Malayalam cinema’s highest-grossing film of all time.
As stated by a Manorama report, Lucifer has fetched Rs 175 cr from theaters. What’s more, the movie's streaming rights have brought it a massive amount of Rs 13 crore. Alongside the profits from these two sources, the film also gets another Rs 6 crore from its sale of satellite rights and Rs 10 crore from other languages’ TV rights.
In 2016, the Malayalam cinema history also recognized another film of Mohanlal titled Pulimurugan to storm in Rs 100 cr club. On the other hand, Nivin Pauly starrer Kayamkulam Kochunni becomes the Malayalam industry’s second movie to join this coveted club.
Lucifer is an action thriller movie with the participation of superstars, including Mohanlal and Stephen Nedumpally. Under the production of Antony Perumbavoor, it also features other actors such as Manju Warrier, Indrajith, Tovino Thomas, and Vivek Oberoi in the pivotal roles. It is also the first directorial movie of Prithviraj Sukumaran who shared a post via Twitter handle about his experience in directing the film.
He shared that Lalettan (Mohanlal’s pet name) says goodbye to Stephen Nedumpally and Lucifer today. It has become an extraordinary journey for him. Whenever he participated in directing such a great movie like Lucifer, almost all of his well-wishers talked to him that this was not the smartest decision he has made. But, it has become a "foolish investment in time."
“Directing you has been the absolute highlight of my career regardless of how many ever films I director even if I’ll never direct again,” he wrote.
