Rajkumar Santoshi is a prominent Hindi filmmaker who last helmed “Phata Poster Nikhla Hero” in 2013. Buzz has it that he is now set to direct the Hindi remake of Tamil film “Kaithi”.

Rajkumar Santoshi, one of the most celebrated filmmakers in Bollywood, has been missing from the scene for quite a long time now. He last directed Phata Poster Nikhla Hero (2013) with Shahid Kapoor playing the lead role. After the release of Phata Poster Nikhla Hero, Rajkumar Santoshi tried to work on a couple of projects but they never took off. After a long gap of seven years, it seems the filmmaker is set to make his directorial comeback.

Rajkumar Santoshi hasn't directed any film in the last 7 years

As we all know that Reliance Entertainment has recently acquired the remake rights of superhit Tamil film Kaithi (2019). The original movie starred Karthi, the brother of Tamil superstar Suriya, in the lead role. Besides him, the film also had Narain and Dheena on its star cast. Produced by SR Prakash Babu and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the movie turned out to be a huge money spinner at the cash counter.

Now, Kaithi is set for its adaptation in Hindi, with many Hindi filmmakers trying to come onboard to roll it. A source informs a publication that he saw director Rajkumar Santoshi sit inside a single screen in Goregaon watching the film because even he had heard a lot about the movie. The mother of Rajkumar Santoshi is a Tamilian and he understands the language. But the makers — which include Reliance as well as Prakash Babu — have not announced a director as yet for the film.

However, sources from Chennai informs that director Lokesh, who called the shots for the Tamil version, may come onboard to direct the Hindi version as well. But nothing has been finalised yet. For the uninitiated, Kaithi is a cop and criminal action movie. Kaithi is the Tamil adaptation of the Hindi-Urdu word Qaidi (prisoner). It remains to be seen if Rajkumar Santoshi manages to helm the Hindi remake or not.
