Monsoon is coming with a lot of skin and hair problems. The humidity in the air will harm all skin types by acne. And your hair is also in trouble because of excess hair fall. To keep your skin and hair healthy, follow these tips from two Delhi dermatologist doctor: Dr. Shehla Agarwala and Dr. Vivek Mehta.
TO PROTECT YOUR SKIN, YOU SHOULD
1. Follow a skincare routine
A regular skincare routine includes cleansing, toning, and moisturizing. There are completely different skincare routines according to the type of skin. For example, with the oily skin, washing face frequently with Salicylic acid-based face wash and using water-based moisturizer is necessary. Other things to do are exfoliating the skin to remove the dead cells and using water-resistant sunscreen SPF 30 and hydration during rain season.
In case of dry skin, you should avoid over-cleaning in the air conditioner too much. For better skin care, our doctors suggest that you should use mild face washes and oil-free moisturizers. Drink 8 to 10 glasses of water is also needed to free the skin of dryness, too!
Remember your face isn’t the only one you have to take care. The skin on your feet also needs protection. After exposing to puddles or rainwater, please wash your feet with soap and carefully to protect your feet.
2. Eat suitable food to maintain healthy skin
The dehydration is the reason why skin tone is uneven in Monsoon. To overcome this problem, you can use food such as bitter guard and green tea. Bitter guards have lots of Vitamin C, they can improve our skin tone and add for a glow. Green tea is known as an excellent antioxidant which helps to give a glow on the skin. It also neutralizes free radicals for us and helps our skin healthier.
The humidity in the monsoon months also causes spots, pimples, and rashes. Eating food with turmeric and cummin can help us a lot. Because turmeric has an anti-inflammatory property for acne, pigmentation and cumins have detoxifying properties. Banana which contains several vitamins and minerals is suggested food because of its benefit with our skin.
3. Avoid eating these foods during monsoon
You should avoid root plants and green leafy vegetables because if they aren’t washed carefully in Monsoon, they can cause allergies and infections. Watermelons and muskmelons content lots of water and likely to cause water retention, so please think carefully before you eat them. And make sure to stay away from mangoes and dairy products to keep your skin safe from pimples and acne.
4. Keep your skin dry
It’s very important to keep the skin dry in the monsoon. The humidity film oil forms on the skin, causes itching, pimples, and acne. Never rub with the towel and use talcum powder to make your skin dry, that’s what our doctor advice you to do. Besides, you should wash your face 2 – 3 times a day to remove excess and remember to use tissue paper to wipe sweat.
If acne appears on your face, DO NOT touch it with your hands repeatedly. For the blackheads, you can use a waterbased moisturizer, toner and salicylic acid-based face wash. Mud face packs can be used to remove excess oil on the face.
5. Use natural remedies for the skin
You can keep your skin squeaky-clean with a mixture of rose water and 1 teaspoon of powdered camphor. Keep this mixture in an air-tight jar at the fridge and use 1 teaspoon on your face several times a day.
For removing dead skin cells, providing anti-aging compounds and rejuvenating the skin, our doctors suggest you use a mixture of pomegranate seeds, one cup of raw oatmeal, 2 tsp of honey and buttermilk.
TO PROTECT YOUR HAIR
Our doctor's advice for reducing hair fall and dandruff is washing hair 2-3 times a week with shampoo. But there are also somethings to note in before and after washing your hair. You should use coconut oil to condition the hair before washing it. After washing hair, do not tie it when it’s still wet and wear a hat or scarf to protect it from sun rays and dirty water.
