Keira Knightley Calls for Bend It Like Beckham Sequel On Lesbian Romance

Keira Knightley is game for a sequel to her hit film Bend It Like Beckham, admitted that it "would've been amazing" had the film ended with Jess and Jules living happily forever.

Actor Keira Knightley said that her character in Bend It Like Beckham should have been a lesbian and she was really keen on its sequel.
The film directed by Gurinder Chadha starred Keira Knightley, Parminder Nagra and Jonathan Rhys Meyers in the lead. Two girls were passionate about playing soccer; however, they had to confront with protest from conservative parents. Queer fans have long wished her character's friendship with Parminder Nagra's Jess would have ended together instead of hooking with Jonathan Rhys-Meyers’ soccer coach Joe.
In an interview with Pride Source, Knightley expressed eagerly that the film should have been a lesbian love story.
Knightley is about on a promotional tour for her latest film Collette, according to the Pride Source interview. Collette follows the life of the titular character - bisexual author Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette. She became a literary icon about the sexual coming-of-age of a young woman in the French countryside. Knightley also shared that one of the things that made Colette special was the connection between female actors and gay directors.
Especially, “you have to fight for your space and fight for your right to be who you feel you are and fight for your voice”, she noted.
