A Star Is Born And Lady Gaga Dominate Golden Globes 2019

Golden Globes 2019 takes place on this Sunday night, and the winners of the awards will not be the only thing that the media and the audiences care about.

The ceremony will be held in Beverly Hills by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and its lacking in gravitas is usually made up for the playfulness and entertainment.

The award will be live broadcast at 7:30 am on Monday, after one hour coverage of the red-carpet pre-show. Golden Globe awards winners are predicted to be A Star Is Born by Bradley Cooper, which is also likely to win an Oscar, The Favorite by Yorgos Lanthimos, comedy-drama series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel of Amazon and The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story by Ryan Murphy.

Lady Gaga has been expected to win both best actress award and best song award (Shallow from the movie A Star Is Born). Lady Gaga won an award in Golden Globes 2016 for the performance in American Horror Story: Hotel but she would still fall short of Barbra Streisand who won three Globe awards.

But what everyone is most curious about is how the Globes party will be held this year. The ceremony of last year was under the theme of #MeToo movement and Harvey Weinstein’s scandal. Therefore, female celebrities who attended the award dressed in black as dresscode. And Natalie Portman sharply presented the all-male directors nominations.

Things haven’t been settled down after one year. Gender inequality still exists in Hollywood and influential men continues to fall. And this year, once again, the nominees of Best Director are all males.

The award show will have Sandra Oh and Andy Samberd, an unexpected pair, as main hosts. Sandra Oh, the star of Killing Eve series, is also nominated for the Best Actress. Oh and Samberg said that they hoped to host the show in a cheerful and lively tone but to what extent these problems will be talked about is still unknown.

The ratings of last year’s ceremony, like many other awards shows, has declined by 11%. It was hosted by Seth Meyers and attracted around 19 million views.

However, NBC may have an advantage this year: the NFL show. Before the ceremony, the Wild Card match held in the afternoon between Philadelphia Eagles and Chicago Bears will be broadcast.

Another advantage for the Globes might be the movies nominated that were great hits at the box office. Black Panther by Ryan Coogler, for example, has been nominated for the Drama Motion Picture and the Original Score. And A Star Is Born, the movie predicted to top the drama section of the award, earned more than $200 million within the domestic market only.

Not to mention Vice by Adam McKay, with Christian Bale in the main cast, is highly reviewed and has six nominations until now. While awesome music movies like Bohemian Rhapsody and A Star Is Born are dominating the drama category, Vice is leading in the comedy and musical categories, followed up by other nominees like Green Book by Peter Farrelly, a road trip story with the starring of Mahershala Ali and Viggo Mortensen, or The Favourite.

Along with the Golden Globes 2019, the Oscar is also getting attention from the public. The Oscar’s voting will begin on Monday.

The Cecil B DeMille, an honorary Golden Globe Award, will be given to Jeff Bridges. For the first time, The Carol Burnett Award, an award for television achievement is introduced with the first winner is Burnett.
