In spite of criticism from critics due to its script and story development, The Accidental Prime Minister under the direction of Vijay Ratnakar Gutte shows a positive sign in attracting audiences to cinemas.
After a relatively modest start as raking in Rs 4.50 crore on its premiere, the movie achieved a box-office increase on Saturday. According to initial estimates, it earned approximately an additional Rs 6 crore, bringing the total box-office receipts thus far to Rs 10.50 crore.
The Accidental Prime Minister is adapted from the memoir with the same name of political commentator Sanjaya Baru. The film indicates that during Dr Manmohan Singh's two-term tenure as Prime Minister, PMO's entire workings are in control of Sonia Gandhi, the then-Congress president.
After its release, this political film has been faced a strong negative reaction as accused of attacking the Congress right prior to the 17th Lok Sabha election. Nevertheless, in an interview with IANS, the male lead Anupam Kher, who acts Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, voices his opinion in defence of the movie crew. He affirms that their motion picture is produced with "sincerity" and contains no "political agenda" behind its launch.
Besides, Anupam Kher's film has encountered several big roadblocks. In some locations such as Ludhiana and Kolkata, the destruction of cinemas took place. The actions of these violent protest groups made its release interrupted. Subsequently, via Twitter, the actor Anupam Kher denounces their hooliganism and appeal to people to raise their voices in this problem.
Currently, The Accidental Prime Minister has to face stiff competition with another movie launched on the same day. It is Uri: The Surgical Strike starring Vicky Kaushal and Yami Gautam and directed by Aditya Dhar. Thus far, Uri: The Surgical Strike won the box-office clash when earning Rs 20.63, nearly double what The Accidental Prime Minister does during 2 days of its release. However, everything can change on their subsequent release dates.
