Shilpa Shetty supports the #YouToo campaign instead of #MeToo in India
On Sunday, Shilpa Shetty, an Indian actress, said that it is time for women to speak out the harassment issue that they have suffered for a long time. Also, the hashtag should be changed into “YouToo” instead of “MeToo” since the men have to be responsible for this. The actress supported Tanushree Dutta in bravely sharing the alleged harassment that Nana Patekar made her suffer from ten years ago. This has sparked off the movement “YouToo” in India and many other countries around the world.
Shilpa said that the workplace should be as safe as a house for actors and entrepreneurs at first. After hearing Tanushree Dutta talking about what she had experienced, Shilpa expressed her compassion for Tanushree when such maladies have been ignored and covered for many years.
Patekar has denied the involvement in any sexual harassment.
Women need to speak up
Stop being weak and be stronger! That’s the message Shilpa wanted to spread to Indian women. She didn’t know exactly the heart of the matter of what was going on but it had triggered the campaign. Women can’t be silent and do nothing. It’s time for them to be awake and make a revolution. India needs the hashtag “YouToo” instead of “MeToo”.
Malaika Arora, a judge from a reality show, also expressed her opinion about this issue. For her, creating a safe environment for working is a must for women. The solely way to prevent this is that women shouldn’t keep secret and the perpetrators must be pointed out. Women have rights to receive protection from everyone to avoid sexual assault.
Pulkit Samrat demanded to raise the relationship between the profession and get rid of “toxic factor” in the film industry.
On Sunday, actor Fukrey shared a letter showing his opinion about the harassment issue. As an actor in the Bollywood industry, he thought that it is essential to expose hypocrisy. When Tanushree revealed the story relating to the harassment, he heard some perspectives from the public. Some wondered why she didn’t tell earlier and why she had waited for a decade to release this. Some believed that Nana Patekar was nice and he also helped farmers.
Actor Pulkit thought that the core reason was that society always kept silent. Silence culture somehow still takes the majority in society nowadays. They so fret about confronting powerful people for fear that they will have trouble in their job as well as social standing. The indifference of authorities can’t improve the matters.
