Sanya Malhotra To Topline Ekta Kapoor’s “Pagglait”

Sanya Malhotra, who was last seen in the Ritesh Batra-directed Photograph (2019) opposite versatile actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, is on a roll! She has some exciting projects in her pocket at the moment. The actress recently wrapped up her next film Shakuntala Devi - Human-Computer alongside Vidya Balan. The latest we hear that the Dangal (2016) actress has signed yet another interesting project.

Well-known film and television producer Ekta Kapoor, who has produced a couple of message-driven movies in the past including Lipstick Under My Burkha (2016) and Veere Di Wedding (2018), has now teamed up with producer Guneet Monga for an upcoming movie called Pagglait. They have roped in Sanya Malhotra to play the lead role in it. Balaji Motion Pictures and Sikhya Entertainment will jointly produce the flick.

“Guneet is one of the most relevant voices in Indian cinema today. When I heard the very concept of the film, I knew we had to do this together,” Ekta Kapoor, whose last film Dream Girl (2019) set the box-office on fire, said in her statement.

Pagglait will be helmed by director Umesh Bist. It is going to be a light-hearted entertainer with its heart in the right place. Talking about her upcoming production venture, producer Guneet Monga, who bagged the Best Documentary Short Oscar last year for her film Period, said that when girls finally see sense, they are called Pagglait.”

“We are glad to bring a concept as quirky as Pagglait on screen with Sanya Malhotra leading the film. Our film is a story of a young girl as she discovers her purpose and identity amidst looming questions about love and belonging in the neo-modern small-town India,” added Monga.

The first schedule of the film is currently taking place in Lucknow. More details, including other members are the cast, are expected to be out soon.
