On Friday, Salman Khan took to Instagram to announce the official release date of his upcoming movie Dabangg 3. In his post, there is a release date on a top of a picture from the film, saying "20th Dec 2019." Salman Khan also wrote a caption below: "Chulbul is back... #Dabangg 3."
Also starring Sonakshi Sinha and Arbaaz Khan in the lead roles, Dabangg 3 was previously reported to have clashing release date with Ranbir Kapoor's Brahmastra. However, Brahmastra's release date is postponed and pushed to next year. On Saturday, filmmaker Ayan Mukerji shared an official statement on his Instagram account, announcing that Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt's movie will hit the theaters in summer 2020.
Several multiple media reports pointed out that the Brahmastra's filmmakers decide to get a new date because they do not want the movie to lock horns with Salman Khan's Dabangg 3. However, Ayan Mukerji cleared all the rumors in his statement, explaining that the VFX team needs more time to achieve the best results.
Before, Ayan's fantasy movie was initially scheduled to release around Christmas this year. If there were no significant changes, the audience would get to see the biggest clash ever at the box office at the end of 2019 between Dabangg 3 and Brahmastra. Though there is a week's gap between both release date, Dabangg 3 will have to give way to Brahmastra in the second week.
It is not the first time the audiences witnessed this situation, as Shah Rukh Khan's Zero and Ranveer Singh's Simmba also had a clash last year. In December 2018, both movies got to hit the theatres in the same week: Zero hit the cinemas on December 21, and Simmba arrived on December 28. Despite a week's difference, Simmba opened to an excellent response while Zero flopped at the box office. The history would repeat itself if Brahmastra's filmmakers did not postpone its release date.
Brahmastra which is the first part of a sci-fi trilogy is reportedly a big-budget film of Rs 150 crores. Besides Alia and Ranbir, Brahmastra also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Mouni Roy, and Akkineni Nagarjuna in pivotal roles. This fantasy movie also marks rumored lovebirds Alia and Ranbir first on-screen collaboration ever.
